Carl B. Phillips has been a part of the Detroit Gospel Music scene for over 30 years. Beginning at age 12 he was a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church Jewel Choir, under the directorship of TJ Hemphill (producer of hit gospel play “Perilous Times”). After being baptized in Jesus name and being filled with the Holy Ghost, Carl became the director of the Christ Temple Inspirational Choir, a position he held for over 20 years. Under Carl’s leadership the choir presented a yearly concert from 1978 to 1997. In the mid 80’s Carl seized an opportunity to perform with Savoy recording artist Donald Vail’s Voices of Deliverance. In 1990, Carl began his career in Gospel radio at WMKM 1440, Detroit MI. When Larry Robinson, owner of God’s World Music, started WWON 1160 AM in Fenton, MI, Carl made the 60 mile journey to perform as an on-air announcer, music director, and program director. After several years at WWON, Carl joined WMUZ 1340 AM, Detroit, MI where he worked as an evening announcer and music director for two years. Carl B:
How do you define your journey from your self-titled debut, “Marvin Sapp,” through your latest release?

Pastor Marvin Sapp: Total and complete maturity. At least 12 years ago when we did our first solo project, I was kind of trying to find myself. Just really, really more or less experimenting with different aspects and style just to see where I fit. And now at 40, I kind of know who I am, and what God has called me to do, and I just try to make things in that area.
